zen guitar: one

in february 2022, during one of my frequent charity shop hauls, i chanced upon a tea-stained copy of the book 'zen guitar' by philip toshio sudo

if you know me in real life, you probably know I'm not really a 'zen' kind of guy

(whatever that means)

quite the opposite, really

it's probably true to say i have a deep mistrust of any person or group who proposes a one-size-fits-all way of life or practice or belief

despite this, I bought sudo's book, in the hope it might recharge a creative impulse I felt had recently floundered, after a year of focusing almost exclusively on the technical side of my guitar playing

once home, i was relieved to find that sudo's book was not dogmatic at all but, instead, offered refreshingly simple and welcome wisdom on the art of learning (and continuing) to play a musical instrument

for three weeks in march, i read one chapter a day

after finishing each chapter, I wrote and recorded a new piece of music

the corresponding chapter names and tracks are:
